Out of boredom and having no school activities whatsoever, I decided to propose something to enrich my dreaded days.

Blogging has become a fast rising trend in Singapore. Many students as well as working adults own their own blog sites. Common providers such as Blogspot, Blogdrive and LiveJournal, provides free hosting for users to host their blogs. The evolution of blogging arose many years ago, recently blogging has been recognized to the public and many articles involving have been published throughout the media.

The NUS Arts and Science Club recently launched an event within campus to judge the Best NUS Blog, the Most Creative Blog, and the Funniest Blog. The event is named, NUS Blogfest 2006 which ended their registration on February 15, 2006. In collision with the NUS Blogfest 2006, I would like to suggest launching an Informatics Blogging Fiesta 2006 within Informatics Academy campus to promote the importance of writing to the student.

Informatics Academy
has a multinational collection of students, many with the intention to improve their English. English is an international language, which should be practiced by all nationalities. The purpose of this event is to promote the importance of English not only in understanding and speech, but also in writing. This will encourage student to not only conversing in English, but also improve their standard in writing.

I propose to open this event to students within Informatics Academy campus. Only blogs that are written in English will be valid for entry. Judging is based on similar categories as NUS Blogfest 2006, the Best Informatics Blog, the Most Creative Blog, and the Funniest Blog. In additional, I would also like to add another two categories called the Best Written Blog and the Best New Blog.

For students who do not currently own their own blog, these are the following options they can go to:

- Blogspot: http://www.blogspot.com
- Blogdrive: http://www.blogdrive.com
- LiveJournal: http://www.livejournal.com
- Haspoken: http://www.haspoken.com (official website is currently unavailable, email request@haspoken.com if you’re interested)

Haspoken is a local blogging provider. Blogs are created in Wordpress, a blogging system. Unlike Blogspot, Blogdrive and LiveJournal, blogs under Haspoken is more individual. Each user has a sub domain under Haspoken (e.g. http://user.haspoken.com), a dedicated database and individual email (e.g. user@haspoken.com). For free hosting services users are not able to access to the database, but with a low fee per month users are able to access these databases and increase their hosting space.

I send the above to the ISC weeks ago but had no response so I decided to send it to one of my favorite lecturer, who is also the head of Mass Communication Department. Probably he could give me some feedback, or even support this suggestion and submit it to the right authorities?
