"Every school in England should set up a council so pupils can have a voice on the appointment of teachers and running the school, a Commons committee says."

I absolutely agree on this!

Well, back in primary school, I’m not sure if we had a council. However, in secondary school and after, I do recall having a student council. I’m not sure if England’s school council is the same as our student council but based on the phrase, the purpose is somewhat the same.

In the recent days, student councils have become a practice even for private institutions. These institutions are known to be money-sucking commercialized businesses that feed on those who wish to gain a higher level of education. Yet lately, I’ve seen a change, an improvement in their structure. It’s somewhat becoming more "student oriented" still money-sucking in many ways nevertheless.

Let me name an example. One that I’ve somewhat seen it grown since back in 1999 till present 2007 is Informatics. Though still having a horrid administration/student service, they too have set up a student council lead by non-other then the students themselves.

The role of these students are not only to improve the facilities within the campus, they also come up with events, traveling opportunities and even the magazine not a really impressive magazine though.

Sadly, though given the power to make changes and improve the system. The students that sign up and eventually get elected are not always the best of choices. Due to the regulations that foreign students are to spend an average amount of them in the campus, thus, they have to take up CCA to justify for their time spent. And these turns out to be the students that sign up for the election. Basically when you’re forced to do something, you end up not actually doing it very well. Nevertheless, it’s still better then nothing.

I think I’m drifting off my point. Tsk.

The conclusion of this mambo jumbo is that, I most definitely think that a council should be regulated as a must in not only England’s educational system but Singapore and all around the world.

Who would know what the students want best, other then the students themselves?
