To be absolutely honest, I have no idea what is "colloidal silver" used for. So let's not even bother talking about whether or not it's effective.

But since we're on the topic, might as well find out. According to a website:

In the world of colloids, particle surface area is the property of colloidal silver that directly determines the ability of the colloid to react with its environment. Therefore the effectiveness of colloidal silver is predicated on particle surface area. The higher the particle surface area the more effective the colloidal silver.

Apparently, colloidal silver has antimicrobial properties and was, in the past, used on external wounds and burns to prevent infection. Some alternative-health practitioners claim that it is a beneficial nutritional supplement. Others also claim that it is a powerful antibiotic, which is relatively safe for human consumption, though this is disputed because of the risk of argyria, a permanent blue or gray skin condition which is otherwise benign. The intake of some silver products in large quantities over long periods of time has caused argyria in some people. At dosage levels generally considered normal, the risk for argyria is low. While argyria is generally considered permanent, some claim to have reversed it.

Ultimately, I'm still confused.
