There's a lot of buzz these days about having a "Brand Platform". You may have heard the term, but aren't sure what it means. Don't worry! You're not the only one!

Geez! Even within the Advertising Industry, you'll find disagreement over its definition. What one guru calls a "Brand Platform" another calls a "Corporate Identity".

Regardless of what you call it, you will still need it!

A Brand Platform or Corporate Identity (CI) is the "persona" of a corporation which is designed to accord with and facilitate the attainment of business objectives, and is usually visibly manifested by way of branding and the use of trademarks.

Simply put, your "Brand Platform" or "Corporate Identity" is what your brand stands for.

It is somewhat a strategic statement or set of statements that encompass who your company is, what it does, how it plans to succeed, and why it is unique or different. Although brand platforms vary from company to company, most consist of the following basic elements:

1. Mission
2. Identity Attributes
3. Value Proposition
4. Tagline and/or Byline
5. Brand Story

In general, this amounts to a Logo and supporting devices commonly assembled within a set of guidelines.

These guidelines govern how the identity is applied and confirm approved colour palettes, typefaces, page layouts and other such methods of maintaining visual continuity and brand recognition across all physical manifestations of the brand.

The Logo is one aspect of the brand of a company or economic entity, and the shapes, colors, fonts and images are usually different from others in a similar market. Logos may also be used to identify organizations or other entities in non-economic contexts.

Logo Design is commonly believed to be one of the most important areas in graphic design, thus making it the most difficult to perfect.

So...

Upon setting up a new company, the first thing that comes into mind would be the "How to Design a Logo Myself?"

Reason being - Engaging a designer to do it, would be rather costly.

When you start up, every cost factor can make a crucial difference. But not having a "Logo" may actually affect the business start up as well.

Thus, I would say that having a "Do It Yourself Logo Design (DIY Logo Design) Guide" of some sort, would seriously come in handy, esp. for those with minimum financial means.

In fact, a rebranding in the future (near or far), maybe a good marketing/promotional move as well.

Who knows, it might hit the headlines of the daily papers if your new established enterprise actually creates the necessary buzz within the industry?
