Here's something from TMS (themediaslut) that for once I actually read the entirely:
"There is a lot of whining out there about Google dropping blogs' Pagerank."
Geez. That's the whole point of blogging you know. To whine cause your friends don't want to listen to you do it?
"Yes, Pagerank is important for you to get those paying blog post ads."
PageRank somewhat defines where your blog pops up when someone searches the keywords. So, regardless ads or not, the importance of PageRank would still exist if you're just out for mere attention. ;x
"Go back and ask why you have started a blog.
Did you start it because you want to share your daily experiences and thoughts with the world?"
I don't know about the rest of you people out there, but I have a handwritten diary so I don't really input stuff like "I did this, I did that" in my blog.
I started blogging (not through Blogspot but by purchasing my personal domain and web hosting instead), or rather I started having my own personal site, cause I needed to whine but my friends wouldn't let me.
(Ex-boyfriend problems. Figures eh?)
So I kinda let it all out in my personal website, which people referred to as a 'blog'.
(Oh yeah, by the way, back then there isn't exactly a Ping.sg in case you're wondering.)
After a while it became somewhat my little online space as well as my digital portfolio, since I kinda did freelance designing for extra cash.
I never truly referred to my blog as a blog until really later days. (And ever since I hooked up with Teddybear, I can't seem to find anything to really whine about 'boyfriend problems' anyway.)
So yes. it is still about sharing my daily whining experiences and thoughts with the rest of the world, up to a certain extend of course.
"Bring the readers into your world."
This would seriously require waaay too many Hello Kitty gowns.
*Blah, blah, blah*
"But at end of the day, it is your content that pulls in the readers, followed by the advertisers."
But if they can't find your blog to begin with... All that is said (above that is) is kinda redundant?
So now...
How do you start a blog?
Princessa says:
1. You find a host whether it is Blogspot, Wordpress.com or Domain + Webhosting package.
2. You play around with the blogging system a little. Not too technical of course, just to get the feel of how it works and where to start typing and publishing your entries from.
3. You build up the content base, quantity and quality, and wait for Google to refresh PageRank and prepare to pop up in its search engine.
Not everyone knows Ping.sg and not everyone started with a Ping.sg available in the market.
And also, not everyone would 'digg' at Digg either. I mean, I wouldn't consider the inconsiderate acts of my ex-boyfriends, or going so-and-so place to eat so-and-so thing and had so-and-so fun, something digg-worthy.
So now, back to the topic, is TMS right (as in correct or wrong, not that 'it' doesn't have the right to say anything at all) to say,
Forget about Pagerank; Get back to blogging basics
Well, to me, which of course doesn't really matter to most of you out there, PageRank is kinda the basics?
Thank god I've said goodbye to basics? Currently ZERO PageRank you see.
P/s: If you're telling me I'm getting this whole topic all wrong, and that he meant to stop whining about PageRank and just blog for the sake of blogging. I KNOW!
I'm whining for the sake of whining. Back to basics you see. That's how my whole blog started out to begin with.

this is overly dued but i agree with cubefx. when you have good traffic (plus language skills), advertisers would naturally make their way to you.

Having a better SERP (Search Engine Results Page) for top keywords is definitely more valuable than an ordinary PR 3, 4 or 5.
PR doesn't help much except to getting advertisers who are interested in getting some PR juice out of your site. But since Google is cracking down on this, there's no point anymore.
It would be better to focus on how well your site is ranked/positioned for top keywords in search engine.
That's where you get all the organic traffic from search engines. When you have good traffic, advertisements will come.
