Remember back in February 2007 I wrote an entry about the Cosafe Maid Cafe at Chijmes? (It's okay if you don't.)

Well, last weekend marks the grand re-opening of Royal/T in Culver City - Los Angeles' first Japanese inspired "maid cafe".

(And no, I wasn't present there unfortunately.)

How should I put it...

Unlike typical cafes, this one is part cafe/shop and art space.

Susan Hancock launched the space as a way to showcase her contemporary art Art-of-Estimation collection. Which unfortunately, I don't really appreciate cause to be honest, I'm not much of a contemporary art person.

The cafe is a blend of Oktaku and Lolita, and the maids are dress in traditional Akihabara-style maid uniforms with a Lolita-esque touch.

As for food, the cafe has a great blend of traditional food from Tokyo's Akihbara district. And, of course, the fusion between California and Japanese texture to the menu.

Hmmm... What else....

(Yes, you may.) At the shop you can pick up t-shirts, figures, toys, bags, and lots of cute stuff. And you can even purchase a copy of the Gothci Lolita book there.

Isn't it just sooo pretty?

Anyhow.

The current Art space is Just Love Me a collection from Susan Hancock. It shows the complexity behind cuteness.

The exhibit runs until August 25, 2008 and you can go to http://www.royal-t.org for directions and more information.
