May I have your attention please...

I hereby hand over the title of Box Office "New Hero" to The Dark Knight, Batman! ;x

Have you heard?

LOS ANGELES - "The Dark Knight" Batman overthrows "Spider-Man 3" at box office selling an estimated $155.3 million worth of tickets during its first 3 days release across the United States and Canada, according to Warner Bros. Pictures.

The new Batman film "The Dark Knight" starring Welsh actor Christian Bale as the Caped Crusader and late actor Heath Ledger as anarchic Joker, shatters box office record of $151.1 million haul by Spider-Man 3 set during it's first weekend in May 2007.

The movie "The Dark Knight" was directed by English filmmaker Christopher Nolan, who had previously collaborated on "Batman Begins" with Christian Bale, earning $48.7 million during its first weekend in 2005, and finished up with $205 million.

Hmmm... That's like erm... a third of what the new movie is bringing in?

Anyhow.

The film reportedly cost about US$180 million to produce, and even though filmmakers blew up bits of Chicago, which doubles for the fictional Gotham City, it wasn't the fireworks that made the show shine. Instead, it was, the 28-year-old actor that died of an accidental overdose of prescription drugs in January, Ledger's performance as the Joker that has generated the most buzz.

As reported, many pundits have already declared that he is a shoo-in to receive an Oscar nomination for his creepy turn as the bane of Batman's existence. Sadly, like art, masterpieces seems to only be recognized after a person's passing.
