Woohoo~ Let me proudly present to you the relaunching of our very own, well-renowned, online map website Streetdirectory.com with a new owner (which is none other then the company I work for) and maps created from SCRATCH!
This piece of news was released August 1st, 2008 on The Straits Times by Irene Tham, the same day JobsDB.com held their 10th Anniversary Gala Dinner at Ritz-Carlton.
(I had to attend the event, but honestly, I wouldn't consider myself a willing party... Not that it was bad or anything, but I was kinda exhausted.)
I don't have any insiders news, in case you're wondering. (And even if I did, I don't think I'm supposed to say anything.)
Anyhow.
According to the article, we, the new owners of Streetdirectory.com bought the domain name and assets in the 4th quarter of last year (2007). I'm not sure this happened before or after violating the copyrights of Singapore Land Authority (SLA), but Streetdirectory.com was taken offline in late March 2008.
After roughly 4 months, the new-released Streetdirectory.com is more or less THE SAME as what we previously recall. The difference would probably be that the maps are new, created from scratch over the past nine months by the new owner - JobsDB (the same "owner" of 88DB.com, the leading Online Service Portal that I work for - as a writer in case you've forgotten), and that "it" has a new owner! (Duh!)
Anyway. I'm going to end this here. I could rewrite the whole article but hell... What's the point?

P/s: Just like to add that I had no idea about this acquisition until the news was published in the papers. Then again, it's not like I really cared who owns it. After all, my concerns would be that it's up and running again. I'm kinda dependent on their traffic directions feature - force of habit.

I wonder why Jobsdb who is doing such a good job wanna acquire this kindof useless team. VM team sues fellow SME cos they "business model" is licensing maps. What rubbish... Google maps come out so long never hear about them suing SME for embedding their maps on their website. Somemore they offer free tools. It's not about their website, it's just the people behind it have bad attitude. Dunno how to make money go and bully other smaller companies. I was so happy when SLA decided to hammer them 1 time good good.
