Just the other day, Priss called and told me that she received an invitation to attend the City Alive 2009, the next day, Saturday, January 31, 2009, 9.30pm at City Hall Front.

This was taken when we got in.

I didn't get the email, so she forwarded it to me. I dropped Fadilah (from SPRG) a SMS and I was given an invitation (for 2 people) as well. Sigh, still not on the "invitation list" apparently. Oh well.

Anyhow. Teddybear had a steamboat dinner going on that day so I wasn't able to drag him along with me - in other words, I had to find someone else to attend it with.

Fortunately enough, Joel MSN-ed me at that very moment and asked if I was willing to be interviewed by a friend of his friend, for a Sociology assignment thingy. Taking the opportunity, I invited him for the City Alive thingy instead, but of course, I was going to "help" with the "interview" as well. Fair trade and perfect timing eh?

Now, the plan for the evening:

1. Meet Priss, Joel and his friend's friend.
2. Go for dinner and get the "interview" done.
3. Try psycho Joel's friend to come along with us!

Four tickets for two of us - Priss and myself, and two guest - Joel and his friend's friend. In total we had exactly four people! Woohoo~ I can count!

Anyway. We met up at Park Lane, had dinner at Central Restaurant (which I will be blogging about on a later date), drove from Sunshine Plaza (I parked Xiaohong at the car park there) to Funan, and walked over to Coleman Street to pick up the tickets.

Apparently, only VVIPs were allowed to enter from the entrance where we were to pick up our tickets at - that's the impression given to us that is.

The party was suppose to start at 9.30pm, but I guess there were delays of some sort and even though we arrived at 9.50pm (or so), we had to still wait a while before we were allowed to enter.

While walking along, towards the "crowded area", the Hippo bus "pop-ed out" from behind the bushes.

I started snapping away hoping that despite the darkness I would be able to capture at least one clear shot of the bus. But when I caught glimpse of Priss from afar, staring at my direction...

I stopped and fastening my footsteps, hurrying towards her direction.

There were only a couple of us within the "fenced up area" - like as though we were really VVIPs (hurhur). With us were many "guards" standing around as if they were on standby mode.

Roughly 10-15 minutes, after we entered, the crowd swarmed in on us and we had to increase our pace as not to be stumbled upon. Quite horrifying if you really think about it, if someone were to fall down or something, he/she might literally be stepped on - it was pretty dark.

As we moved toward the stage, from a far, we could see the Hippo bus slowly heading towards our direction.

And girls in bunny suits were not far behind.

Highlights of the party:

- St Andrew's Road being transformed into Singapore's largest outdoor dance floor with the grand City Hall as the backdrop
- Singapore's own DJ KoFlow will be spinning alongside international DJs in this heart stopping hip hop event organised by the People's Association Youth Movement (PAYM) and their partners
- "World's Sexiest DJ" Sassy Pandez from UK to get party-goers' adrenaline going with her spinning skills
- Finalists of Funkamania XIV in battle for street dance supremacy

I'm not a big fan of crowds and not big on loud music either. That's one of the reasons why after I took a couple of photos, I started making my way away from the rest of the world. The other reason was to check if we were entitled to free drinks - the Tiger beer stand happened to be a distance away.

Guess what? Unfortunately, our pair of tickets didn't entitle us to drinks after all. So much for "ticket price includes one drink", I guess having not paid for the tickets meant we won't exactly paying the ticket price, thus it doesn't include the "one drink". Oh well. Bummer. Still, if you do the math, tickets are SGD20 (for advance and non-Passion cardholders) but a drink only cost SGD8. In other words, I still save SGD12. Hurhur. (I sound like a cheapo right about now... Did I mention that I can count? ;x)

Just for the record, I didn't get a drink. None of us did for that matter of fact. Priss was tempted to, but she dropped the idea, don't ask me why.

See the seats?

* Photo to be plugged in on a later date.

Pardon me for the lousy photos, the lighting was pretty bad and I'm only using my PINK Canon PowerShot E1. It's amazing that I was able to get any decent photos.

(Getting back on track) I'm assuming that the seats were for the Chingay Parade that happened earlier, but since it was there and we were getting pretty lazy, we decided to occupy them anyway.

Funny thing, the view from where we were seated did kinda beat that of which we were standing. I guess standing at the back of the crowd with my height and all, didn't really make much sense to begin with.

For the rest of the night we sat where we were and enjoyed the performance on stage.

It was supposed to be a "party" but honestly, apart from those dancing on stage; the crowd below was pretty tamed. You couldn't really see that many people grooving with the music. They were on their feet but dancing they were not.

Jean (Joel's friend's friend) made a passing comment saying "Singaporeans would cross their arms and stand still while they watched the performance, westerns on the other hand, would be dancing along". It's the culture in Singapore I guess, we prefer taking the back scene and glance upon the performance rather then join in.

By midnight, Jean and the rest of us were pretty tired and we made a move then. We're old folks, 3am is just too much for us to handle. ;x

PS: Photos to be inserted on a later date. You have no idea how tough it is to resize and edit photos one by one... It's a killer I'm telling you!
