It's nice to know that the world isn't that grey after all. While some colleagues try all means to "destroy" you, others are simply helpful and kind.
My editors (Drew too) have been more than kind to me, same goes for the rest of the editorial team. We're like one big family, always looking out for each other.
It's a nice feeling to have such nice superiors to look up to. In time of "danger", they are always there to lend a helping hand - or fingers, typing long unnecessary/uncalled for reports.
Justin is really something else. He is really geeky with that long messy hair, sleepy expression and silly glasses (okay maybe not that silly). Despite his slobbish looks, he is probably the nicest colleague I (or anyone for that matter of fact) could ever have.
There was once he ticked me off not realising it. When he did, he bought chocolates and apologised with that puppy dog look he tends to give (probably doesn't even know he does that).
Another time, I made him wait for over an hour. He was pretty pissed off, but didn't throw any temper. He didn't even tell on me (it was a work related incident).
Admittedly, he has been kind, I have not.
Sometimes I feel I take him for granted. Come to think of it, I take a lot of things for granted.
Anyway. I've wanted to format my Asus Eee PC 901 from Linux to Windows, but never went ahead doing so. The other day (when we both stayed late at work), I saw Justin formatting a MSI sub-notebook to Windows 7 and asked if he could help format my Baobei too.
Without any hesitation, he agreed.
While trying to install Windows 7 on the machine, Justin noticed that the Asus Eee PC 901 had two SSD hard-disks. Apparently the faster drive was only 4GB and the slower one was 16GB.
I felt conned by this. They should have been clearer about the configuration. It's just not right!
Windows 7 needed about 10GB to run. This meant I could only install the OS on the slower SSD. With my consent, he went ahead with it.
Unfortunately, the installation kinda screwed up. The OS was installed but it couldn't run - no idea why really.
Justin offered to bring it back to install instead - he was on leave for the whole of next week. He said, if Windows 7 couldn't work, he'd run XP for me instead.
A couple of days later, returning to the office from an event, my Baobei was sitting on my desk! Justin came back to the office, set it up and left it there.
I'm still unsure if he came just to return my Baobei or he had other stuff to do so "suan bian" return my Baobei. But whichever the case, I was happy to see my Baobei well and fully configured!
I stress on the fact that it is FULL CONFIGURED! All the shortcut keys, browsers, protection softwares and so on, were all installed. Basically, it was fully functional! Woohoo!
Arigato Justin!
The evil people are still out to make my life miserable. Thankfully there are still good people around that makes the misery easier to live with.
PS: I have a new "column" called "The Ugly Stepsisters".
The supposedly fictional story is based on modern (fairy-tale) days. It casts me as Cinderella, featuring my journey facing the evil and ugly stepsisters.
There's a twist to this version of Cinderella compared to the original concept. Firstly, Cinderella isn't the main lead. Also, she isn't the typical Cinderella-type.
In this "Cinderella story", her role has a Princess-like character.
The green-eyed ugly stepsisters on the other hand, remain intact. They are still evil and stupid. Only difference is that they are the main leads and they aren't actual siblings - one has blood ties to the stepmother, the other is "adopted" too.
The ugly stepsisters are jealous of Cinderella so they try all means to make Cinderella's life miserable and hopefully get rid of her.
The stepmother in this story is not evil. In fact, she is kind in nature. Sadly, she still makes Cinderella's life miserable. The reason for her ill-treatment is due to the false accusations made by her evil daughters - blood is thicker than water.
