Yes, I know I'm late again. Some things just can't be helped. First my blog went down completely, then it got infected by some iFrame exploit thingie. It's just not my day, or rather week for that matter of fact.
Anyhow. Roughly (less than) two weeks ago, I attended the CommunicAsia 2009 held at Singapore Expo with Priss, nadnut, my better half (as mentioned in a previous entry) and some other bloggers.
The event name was called "World Premiere of LG's Newest Feature Packed Smartphone". A total of 3 mobile phones were mentioned during the press conference - the LG GD900 Crystal, LG Smartphone GM730 and the LG Viewty Smart (LG GC900).
I was invited for the "launch of LG Smartphone GM730", thanks to Gavin and the XPR folks of course.
Here's some features of the new LG GM730:
- 3-inch WQVGA screen
- 5-megapixel camera with auto-focus
- HSDPA, 7.2 Mbps - 900/2100Mhz
- Wi-Fi 802.11b/g
- Built-in GPS
- FM radio
- Internet Explorer 6.0
- MP3/MPEG4/AAC/DivX/Xvid player
- 3.5mm audio jack
It is running on Windows Mobile 6.1 platform (upgradeable to 6.5 when it is released), equipped with the appealing S-Class User Interface and has started shipping in South Korea.
Here's demo video Lester took during the event:
And here's a video from CNET Asia TV:
Another interesting development was introduced to us during a small-group bloggers' session - the LG Application Store. It seems LG has decided to come up with their own LG app store in Singapore and Australia by July 14, 2009.
Here's something "interesting":
I swear I had no idea IZ was filming us.
(Back to the LG app store) It is said that roughly 1,400 apps will be available by the time the app store is launch to public. It will have local applications as well as LG dedicated applications. According to Lester, when it launches it will only support Windows Mobile apps; Java and Android apps will be supported eventually.
What's in for the bloggers' that attended the event? Apparently we will get to be the first to download some apps before the launch itself. In other words, we'll get to test, report bugs and give feedback on the store!
This is good for me really. I've been using (only) LG mobile phones for the past 2 years? So yeah, I'm pretty excited! ;x
Here's something else I picked up from Lester, the peeps at LG mentioned a double assurance test on each app. The first test is by the content provider and the second test is by LG. Similar to how the Apple App Store works it seems.
Now here's something developers should take note of:
"The revenue sharing scheme is 10% better than Apple. LG will get 20% and the developer will get to keep 80%."
What do I like about the LG GM730? Well, since I'm keeping long nails and all, I basically have 10 stylus at my mercy. Wahahahaha!
Check out the other videos Lester took:
There's advertisements by the way. The mascots are sooo adorable!

So, what is your personal review on LG GM730?
July 3, 2009 - 3:21am
I can't answer that yet. I haven't gotten my set. Hopefully it will arrive soon then I can do the review and test out the app store.
It seems promising though.

Amazing coverage of CommunicAsia! Looking forward to your LG GM730 review. Also, your site's design is stunning.

Thanks! It's overdue for a revamp though.
Having a bit of problem with the review unit... Hopefully can get the review done in another week or two.

Will you be getting your hands dirty with the LG Crystal as well? Tough, I must admit the GM730 sounds sweet for being a smartphone!

I wish... Unfortunately I think I'm not "lifestyle" enough for them... :(
