We have Dato Loke Wan Tho to thank for The Cathay really. A venue that has been entertaining generations of Singaporeans for over say... 70 years? Admittedly, before the reopening of The Cathay in 2006, I've never been to the building despite the fact I have numerous classes at Dhoby Ghaut (I'm not as young as I use to be 10 years ago...).
Anyway. When we think of The Cathay what do you think of? It's called The Cathay, it kinda shouts out “movie night” really. And ever since Cineleisure had Cathay, it has always been Cathay...
Sab: Movies tonight?
DRod: Okay! Where?
Sab: You suggestion?
DRod: Cathay lor... either Cineleisure or The Cathay.
Yup, yup, were are big Cathay fans, kinda. But the Cathay is no longer just a “movie night” venue. The last couple of times I went there involved:
So basically, they have more than just their cinema to make it a place worth hanging out at. I mean, why else would my classmates pick The Cathay instead of every other shopping centre? Think about it.
Now, let me just run through how a day should be spend at The Cathay.
First stop, breakfast!

Operating hours:
10am to 10pm (Daily)
I is like Ya Kun! Don't ask me why, but I really like Ya Kun and Toast Box, especially for breakfast. Hmmm... come to think of it, I know why! Ya Kun has the best Kaya toast ever! No seriously, it does. It was established in 1944 which gives it over 60 years of experience.
After a good breakfast, it's time for a little window shopping. Window shopping first cause the tummy is bloated and all. After one round of walk-a-boot, then we move on to actually purchasing something.
Here are the couple of outlets that always catches my eye when I'm at The Cathay.

Operating hours:
12noon to 10pm (Daily)

There are more of course, but lets just keep it at that for now.
Remember I mentioned sometime last year I got my BlackBerry Bold skinned at DigiSkin, The Cathay?

Operating hours:
11am to 11pm (Daily)
Skinning alone cost me (or rather the bear) about SGD150~200, the bling cost another SGD50~100 if not mistaken. In total, I went back like 3 or 4 times just to make it perfect.
Unfortunately, it's kinda ruined now. The front skin kinda tore. Skinning doesn't really last as long as one hopes it to... not forgetting it's not all that cheap either. Still, it does make me happy. Hurhur.
After all that walking it's time for lunch! I recommend Nihon Mura!

Operating hours:
12noon to 10pm (Mondays to Thursdays & Sundays)
11.30am to 1.30am (Fridays & Saturdays, including Eve of Public Holidays)
I particularly like Japanese food so I'm pretty bias about it. But the main reason why I picked Nihon Mura over the other eateries isn't because of it's Japanese but because it gives me the option to munch on smaller potions giving me an option to have a wider range of varieties - still Japanese though.
Now, what's next is a little FUN!

Operating hours:
12noon to 11pm (Mondays to Thursdays)
12noon to 3am (Fridays & Saturdays, including Public Holidays)
I'm not much of a e-gaming enthusiasts really, but a little fun once in a while really doesn't hurt. Plus, it does somewhat bring back memories.
After a little gaming, then a little more shopping... it's time for DINNER! Lunch was pretty light after all - I don't consider a little sashimi as a proper meal really. Now, here are a few dinner choices:

Operating hours:
11.30am to 10pm (Sundays to Thursdays)
11.30am to 11pm (Fridays & Saturdays)

Operating hours:
11.30am to 3pm / 6pm to 10.30pm (Weekdays & Saturdays)
10am to 3pm / 6pm to 10.30pm (Sundays)

Operating hours:
11am to 9.30pm (Sundays to Thursdays)
11am to 10.30pm (Fridays and Saturdays)
After that, a little desert to make it all... sugary and sweet!

Operating hours:
11am to 11pm (Mondays to Thursdays)
11am to 1am (Sundays and Public Holidays)
Ending the day with sugary goodness is simply awesome. You'd even smile in your sleep while dreaming of butterflies and ponies!
