I guess the reason why bloggers blog is basically because they want their words to be heard (or rather read). Kinda different when it all started off at the very beginning (at least for me that is).

As blogging evolved from a mere personal space where individuals speak their minds. Now blogging has somewhat became a tool for mediums to generate content for news. And businesses gain interactivity and indept understanding of the consumers.

America Talks BackSM (www.americatalksback.com) is a web site that allows the public to talk back to the major media outlets and major media personalities.

This is just my opinion, nothing personal of course...

Since I'm somewhat into visual appearance, I'm going to start breaking the site down based on the layout itself.

As a Designer, I'm not the least bit impressed with it. The colors are kinda dull, and there aren't many images. It isn't exactly an attractive piece of work, purely based on 'design' that is.

On the other hand, the purpose is kinda worthwhile.

You see... News is still kinda provided within a 'broadcast' paradigm, in which major media outlets determine what is news, frame each story, and then present that story.

It is a system rife with opportunities for distortion and bias. It is also a system in which 'authority' speaks to, and thereby controls, the lay population.

Typical publishing style, I would say.

As bloggers, we wish to be heard. And thank god to the Internet, we have somewhat successfully redirected the media's attention with regard to certain issues.

However, only a small % of the populace seek out and read blogs. Thus, the huge majority of the population still receives its news from the major media outlets (example my Prince, old school).

*Blah, blah, blah*

In short, it's something like a 'blogging community portal'. The difference that defines this site is the content that is generated by the individuals are actually consolidated first before being published as articles based on categorizes. It's kinda more structured then the typical 'blogging community portal'.

The site is worthwhile, but I wouldn't really consider it unique. After all, there are many sites that follow similar concepts. Nonetheless, based on the community and amount of updates, I would say that it's somewhat successful?
